Please do not return any items at this time to the library. All due dates have been extended beyond our reopening date. All fines will also be waived. Library cards that were set to expire have been automatically renewed until May 1st.

How do I obtain a Library Card?

A current photo ID (NYS driver's license) and a piece of mail addressed to a current School District #5 address (utility bill, pay stub, property tax statement, bank statement, etc.) is required. 

Please note that library cards must be obtained or renewed in person by the cardholder. Exceptions will be made for Homebound Patrons; please speak with Circulation staff for details.

  • Library Card keytags can be purchased for $1.00
  • Replacement cards can be purchased for $1.00

  • Your Hillside Public Library card can be used at other Nassau County Libraries.
  • Patrons are required to use their library card barcode to register for all Library programs.

  • Library cards expire after 3 years. Please bring a current photo ID (NYS driver's license) and a current piece of mail (utility bill or bank statement) addressed to School District #5 address to Circulation to renew your barcode. 

  • State Mandated Access Cards are available for non-School District #5 residents.
    A State Mandated Access Card allows an individual who lives in an area in Nassau County which does not currently support of local public library service to borrow materials from the member libraries of the Nassau Library System. These cards are an interim accommodation while mechanisms can be put into place so that all Nassau County residents are able to contribute their fair share of tax support for public libraries.

  • Contract Patron: Residents that do not currently have a library account with the Hillside Public Library can purchase an annual membership to become a Contract Patron. Contract Patrons receive all the benefits of School District 5 residents including patron program registration and online database access. One year memberships cost $375 (check only; made out to "Hillside Public Library"). Please see Circulation Desk for more information.

Lost and Damaged Items

In the event that library materials are lost or damaged, please contact the Circulation Department immediately. Replacement items will not be accepted, and payment must be made. We accept cash or check. Online payments can be made using the library cardholder's account on the ALIS Online Payment System. Please contact us with any questions.

Please note that the charge will apear on your credit card as "Automated Library Info Uniondale NY". There is a $5.00 minimum payment amount for paying online balances.
